Creative retellings, not canonical texts
The stories on Balakatha draw inspiration from Hindu mythological traditions — the Puranas, the epics, and the oral stories passed down through generations. They are creative retellings written for young children, not scholarly reproductions of any single scriptural source.
Variations across traditions
Hindu mythology is vast and living. The same story is told differently across regions, texts, communities, and families. Our versions may differ from those you have heard or read elsewhere. This is the nature of a tradition carried by millions of voices over thousands of years, not an error or an oversight on our part.
No intent to misrepresent
We do not intend to hurt the feelings of any community, misrepresent any deity or tradition, or claim authority over any faction's interpretation. If something in a story feels inaccurate or disrespectful, please write to balakatha@parentsintech.org — we take every such note seriously.
Not a substitute for scripture
These stories are a starting point, not an ending. We hope they spark curiosity that leads children (and parents) to the original texts, to temple visits, and to conversations with elders who carry these stories in their own words.
